WoF #11/2006 Planet Surf Maldives 2006
Planet Surf 2006: Exotic Surf (Maldives). Surf documentation about boat trip surfing at the Maldives atoll. The tropical paradise of the Maldives is a rather unexplored surf destination – compared to the much better known places like Hawaii, California or Australia. But far away from the Western Civilization, some of the most powerful waves break at the shores of the Maldives atoll.
The Planet Surf project is a collection of perspectives from a cross-section of some of the blue planets most remote, unique as well as established wave frontiers. This documentary series explores the different communities that have arisen around Mother Nature's prime surf regions from California to Southern Europe, Hawaii to the exotic islands of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Surfers journey north and west by plane, car and boat to reach one of the last surf frontiers. Over the course of one swell we will follow 6 different groups of surfers as they live and exploit the jewel in their back yard.
Shot on widescreen super 16mm film using traditional as well as slow motion and time-lapse cinematography.
Over the course of one swell we will follow 6 different groups of surfers as they live and exploit the jewel in their back yard. Each episode dips in and out of their lives of these people as we compare and contrast the various differences in their attitudes and experiences.
