Copa Kitley GKA Kite-Surf World Cup - Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro (BRA)

Saquarema (BRA), July 31st - August 11th 2023

The GKA Kite World Tour 2023 holds its second Kite-Surf event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 20 men and 7 women from 11 nations around the world are scheduled to compete for the crown in Saquarema. The spot on Saquarema's Itauna Beach, a World Surf League stop last year, has a 12-day weather window to ensure the best possible conditions. However, the swell and wind at Saquarema can vary, so the contest may feature a mix of pure wave kite surfing and strapless surfboard tricks, depending on the conditions. The winners of the opening wave stop of the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour, Matchu Lopes and Moona Whyte, are set to try to keep the title bids on track at the second event. But Cape Verdean Lopes (ESP) and the US’s Whyte may have their work cut out for them as they face a strong field of Brazilian athletes who are steeped in the local conditions.
