The Gordon Bennett Cup has been held 66 times since 1906 and is considered the oldest and most prestigious competition in aviation. This years edition will take place in the city of Münster, Westphalia. This will be the eighth time that the long-distance world championship has been held in Germany. In 1908, the balloons took off in Berlin and thus for the first time in Germany, followed by 1912 and 1992 in Stuttgart, 1996, 1997 and 2001 in Warstein and 2016 in Gladbeck.
