The Ötztal Cycle Marathon 2023 (AUT) is the most challenging cycling marathon in the Alps, offering a captivating mix of valley and high alpine terrain that contributes to a unique atmosphere. The course covers 227 kilometers from Sölden over four alpine passes (Kühtaisattel, Brenner, Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch) into South Tyrol and back. Riders conquer an incredible 5.500 meters of elevation gain. The event attracts 4.000 participants from 36 nations and five continents who willingly take on this enormous physical and mental challenge. The fastest cyclists complete the marathon in approximately seven hours, demonstrating exceptional speed and determination.

Among the participants of this year's cycling marathon are last year's champions Jack Burke (AUT) and Catherine Rossmann (GER), who are ready to defend their title. Additional favorites are former Dutch cyclist Johnny Hoogerland, as well as the Italians Stefano Cecchini and Enrico Zen. On the women's side, the two Germans Monika Dietl and Christina Rausch are entering the race as favorites. Rausch won the Ötztal Cycle Marathon in 2020 and 2019. The marathon also attracts amateurs and athletes from other sports, such as German ultra running pro Florian Neuschwandner, former Austrian biathlon athlete Dominik Landertinger and the current Austrian overall World Cup champion in Nordic combined, Johannes Lamparter. Former Austrian ski jumping legend Andreas Goldberger will also compete. There are also repeat participants such as Martin Strobl (AUT), who is taking part in the race for the 31st time.
