World Cup 1 Winterleiten - 2020/21 season

Winterleiten (AUT), December 17, 2020

In the upcoming season all eyes are again on an outstanding athlete from South Tyrol: Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) is the winner of all titles in the recent past. She is the reigning World Champion, European Champion and took the first place in the Overall World Cup 2019/20. Her toughest opponent is one of her team-mates: Greta Pinggera (ITA), second in the Overall World Cup 2019/20. Also Tina Unterberger from Bad Goisern/Salzburg is constantly part of the women’s podium. Rising star Michelle Diepold from Styria (WSC Aflenz) is chasing the trio.

In the men’s competiton Tyrolean Thomas Kammerlander took the Overall World Cup 2019/20. But he was closely followed by his team-mate Michael Scheikl (Kindberg/ Styria AUT) who achieved the biggest succes of his career by winning the European Championships last season. Also South Tyrolean luge legend Patrick Pigneter (ITA) seldomly sees a competition without achieving a podium place – in the singles and doubles alike. Also the reigning World Champion Alex Gruber (ITA) is expected to back highly motivated as he performed the World Cup Season 2019/21 slightly weaker than in the past years.

In the doubles the infamous and most successful team are the South Tyroleans Pigneter/Clara who are consequently the hot favourite for all competitions.
