Mammut 2013 - Ice Climbing - Eidfjord | NOR

Giants, ice and lightning

MAMMUT CLIMBING TEAM 2013

Night-lit extreme ice climbing (Eidfjord, NOR)

Ice climbing meets light art, an experiment resulting in fantastic pictures never seen before: German photographer Thomas Senf, Swiss light painter David Hedinger and some renowned climbing pros including Daniel Arnold (SUI) and Stephan Siegrist (SUI) teamed up for a unique project they realized at Norway’s most spectacular ice falls. Eidfjord is situated 3 hours east of Bergen, Norway, and famous for its countless ice falls. The impressive ice and snow formations are 500 metres high and magically attract the world’s best ice climbers. The pictures shot there at night by Thomas Senf’s team present ice climbing in a totally different light. With colourful torches, flood lights and headlamps, the gigantic ice falls and the athletes climbing there at night appear in a mystic atmosphere. Due to the colours, the reflecting ice, and the moving shadows, the ice climbing pictures seem to come from another world, a world of myths and legends.
