Highball bouldering and Climbing with Alex Luger and Bernd Zangerl

Outdoor Sports Team 2013: The Fascination of Bouldering & Climbing

Cresciano/Ticino & Averstal Valley/Grisons (Switzerland), Rote Wand/Vorarlberg (Austria)

What's the appeal of a first ascent? Why is confiding in your partner vital? What does a climber feel during the ascent? In this show, Austrian climbing stars Bernd Zangerl and Alex Luger answer these and lots of more questions on bouldering and climbing.

The two members of the Outdoorsportsteam also describe what climbing taught them for life. Alex Luger, 25, from Hohenems (AUT) and one of Austria's leading young sport climbers, underlines the importance of personal responsibility in climbing: "It's nobody else but me who can decide if I'm secured well enough or if I should return!" This shows how climbers personally grow with the difficulties and risks of climbing. Mental strength is another important issue, as Bernd Zangerl, 34, from Flirsch (AUT) and one of the world’s best boulderers, says: "In high-balling, the mental aspect is even bigger than in normal climbing, as you have to trust 100% in what you are doing."
