Snowboarding: the halfpipe revolution

The Arctic Challenge 2014

March 2014, Oslo (Norway)

Freestyle snowboarding started with the first halfpipe at Lake Tahoe (USA) 30 years ago. For a long time, the halfpipe was the place for progression in snowboarding. Nowadays, the format has stagnated though. Snowboard legend Terje Haakonson and his team intend to change this now. At the 15th Arctic Challenge in Oslo (NOR) 2014, they want to revolutionize halfpipe riding.

Due to its experimental character, the Arctic Challenge will not be ranked as a 6-star event of the World Snowboard Tour this year. Haakonsen continues to work closely together with its organizers though. The field includes many leading riders of the World Snowboard Tour as well as strong newcomers who want to contribute to the progression of halfpipe riding with their fresh ideas and creativity. All riders will get their share of appearance fee and prize money. Confirmed pro riders are Olympic Halfpipe Champion, Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI), Markus Keller (SUI), Arthur Longo (FRA), Danny Davis (USA), Jack Mitrani (USA), Benji Farrow (USA), Scotty Lago (USA), as well as young guns Gabe and Ben Ferguson (USA). Terje Haakonsen (NOR) will for sure also take part himself.
