Road Cycling: the world’s largest non-stop ultracycling event!

Tortour Switzerland 2016

August 18 to 21, 2016,Schaffhausen (SUI)

It’s the biggest multi-day non-stop ultracycling event in the world: from August 18 to 21, 2016, TORTOUR will be held for the 8th time. The road cycle race with start and finish lines based at Schaffhausen demands everything from the athletes. Within only 48 hours, they have to conquer a 1,000-kilometre course including four Alpine passes, riding whether solo or as part of a team. Despite the Olympics taking place at the same time, numerous high-profile participants will be taking part in this year’s event again. Some of them will also be participating in the 2nd official Swiss Ultra-Cycling Championships  simultaneously carried out on the TORTOUR route.

The weather cooperated nicely for the 1,000 kilometres long and 13,000 vertical meter race course, and the second official ultra-cycling Swiss Championship. After a heated head to head battle, Lionel Poggio was able to pull away from the favourite Ralph Diseviscourt to win the Solo Men category with a time of 39h 59min, and became the new Swiss ultra-cycling champion. Nicole Reist crossed the finish line with a time of 43h 28min taking the win and the first Swiss Championship title in the women’s category.
