Slacklining: Lukas Irmler - The Thin Line - Cape Town

The Thin Line

Sunrise on Table Mountain - Cape Town Southafrica 2011

22-year-old Lukas Irmler from Freising is one of the protruding slackliners in Germany. The chemistry student who was born and raised in Dachau holds the current longline world record (254 metres set in 2010) and crossed 55 highlines all over Europe in the past 12 months alone. Earlier this year, Lukas travelled to South Africa for an event of his sponsor adidas and tightened his slackline at Cape Town's most renowned sights. South African photographer Jacques Marais took breathtaking pictures at the unusual "sports locations". We spoke to the talented German athlete about his favourite sport.

Slacklining. You may have never heard of this sport before, but once you step into the thin air zone with these death-defying athletes, chances are you'll never be able to forget it. Jacques Marais's stunning photographs of German slackliner Lukas Irmler demonstrate that in this up-and-coming outdoor sport there is no room for vertigo.
