Mountain Biking: 10th anniversary of the largest stage race!

ABSA CAPE EPIC 2013

March 2013, Cape Town, South Africa

The world´s largest stage race celebrates its birthday! For the 10th time, Cape Epic will lead the riders along the famous beauties of South Africa´s Western Cape. In March  2013, they compete on wide-open African plains, majestic mountains, deep ravines, indigenous forests and flourishing vineyards, conquering demanding climbs, furious downhills and technical trails. The field includes the gold and silver medallists of the 2012 Olympic Games in London!

During their adventurous eight-day journey, the 1,200 participants will have to ride 698 gruelling kilometres and climb 15,650 vertical metres. On their way to the finish at Lourensford Wine Estate, the competitors will have a good chance to catch a glimpse of the African wildlife with elephants, giraffe, gemsbok, or springbok. Much of the marathon route is on private land and is only opened to mountain bikers once a year for the Cape Epic. The scenario is changing daily, and with each ridden kilometre, new and magic perspectives on South Africa’s untamed and varied landscape open.
