Penultimate stop of Kite-Surf discipline
GKA Kite-Surf World Cup 2023 - Dakhla (MAR)
Dakhla (MAR), 22nd September - 1st of October 2023
It's the penultimate stop of the Kite-Surf discipline on the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour 2023. The venue is Dakhla, Morocco, on the edge of the Sahara, known for its long right-hand point break. In Dakhla, the Kite-Surf discipline may revert to a pure wave format if conditions allow. This could have a significant impact on the standings before the final stop in Brazil in November. The event has a 10-day weather window to ensure the best possible conditions from September 22nd to October 1st. Leading the men's rankings is Airton Cozzolino (ITA), closely followed by compatriot Matchu Lopes (ESP). However, dangerous contenders could emerge from Brazil, including Pedro Matos, Sebastian Ribeiro and Gabriel Benetton, as well as Canadian Reece Myerscough, Charly Martin from Reunion Island and Hendrick Lopes (SUI). On the women's side, France's Capucine Delannoy, the reigning Qatar Airways GKA Kite-Surf World Champion, reclaimed the top spot with her win in Sylt. But her closest rival, surfing veteran Moona Whyte (USA), has won the first two of the five scheduled stops, suggesting the title race could go down to the wire. Several other strong surfers, such as Brazil's Serena Luz and Kesiane Rodrigues, will undoubtedly challenge the leaders, as will Switzerland's Camille Losserand, the runner-up in Sylt.
