Wide-open African plains, majestic mountains, deep ravines, indigenous forests and flourishing vineyard, demanding climbs, furious downhill and technically demanding trails: for the 9th time already, South Africa will host the largest and most spectacular mountain bike stage race in the world! On a completely new course, the 2012 ABSA Cape Epic will once again push the participants to their limits. From March 25th to April 01st 2012, this gruelling eight-day race will lead the riders along the famous beauties of the Garden Route and the Western Cape. During their adventurous journey, the 1,200 participants will have to ride 781 burdensome kilometres and climb 16,300 vertical metres. On their way to the finish line at the Lourensford Wine Estate, the competitors will have a good chance to catch a glimpse of African wildlife. Much of the marathon route is on private land and is only opened to mountain bikers once a year for the Cape Epic. Daily, the scenario is changing with each ridden kilometre and the riders submerge into magic perspectives on South Africa´s magical and untamed open landscape.
